JUST AN ORDINARY DAY

In my whole life, I found that the most famous line from Out of Africa is nothing but the ultimate truth: “when the Gods want to punish you they answer your prayers”. That may lead the most reckless reader to believe that I think that we can have in all in life. Which may not be quite true…

I find myself wondering: can we have everything in life which we desire?

In a merely hypothetical thought that is true. But is that what really suits us?

Don’t we sometimes find us struggling to get something that when is obtained is not even remotely as satisfactory as we thought? And aren’t we sometimes swept off our feet by something that we didn’t even considered?

As for the main question, I believe more and more that we can’t have it all. We can’t have our cake and eat it, we can’t have the best of two worlds. Sooner or later something is going to give and then we call it punishment of gods.

Mick Jagger has that brilliant song that seems to me extremely suitable: you can’t always get what you want but if you try sometimes you might just find you get what you need.

Some may call it settling, I prefer to call it playing with the cards that destiny deals us. Because I know I can have everything that I desire – God do I know it - but how many tears has that cost me?

Já dizia Bernard Shaw:
"Há duas tragédias na vida. Uma é a de não obter tudo o que se deseja ardentemente; a outra, a de obtê-lo"
